Ratz may just seem like another Oddworld creature, but they are a lot more.

They are actually the eyes and ears of the Almighty Raisin. Countless numbers of Ratz allow the Raisin to be able to see all that is going on across Mudos (and perhaps even Oddworld) and ultimately allow him to determine a course of action for solving problems that arise.

Little creatures with a body, head and tail combined, and a single leg with a spread out toes to give them balance, Ratz can be seen scampering in both industrial and native environments. They are fast and alert. Their eyes show brightness, which seems to indicate that they are always aware of what is going on so that the Raisin can see. They have also been known to help adventurers in need, however only if the adventurer is able to recognize the signs that they give.
