Developed by Vykkers Labs to ensure that Sam (the Mudokon Queen) is kept emotionally stable so that she can maintain the high birth performance rate as demanded by the Glukkons. Because without a high birth rate, they would not be able to have as many Mudokon slaves as required.

Although a mechanical creature, with a television face and a mechanical crane which connects it to the ceiling, the Shrink has been programmed with self-awareness. On one hand this allows it to have a more compassionate nature, but on the other hand it realizes that it has it's own life that it would rather preserve.

The Shrink's self-awareness ultimately leads to it's wanting to escape from the birthing complex. It finds itself torn between having to do it's job of dealing with Sam (for Sam can be very moody, and the Shrink hates her), and trying to figure out a way for it's own escape. Escape for the Shrink is no easy task, with it having to rely on wiring and power to survive.

With a long life ahead of it (Shrinks can live to be 500 with good maintenance), and having already lived for a long time (being 150 years old), the Shrink has over time become constantly edgy and highly suspicious.
