E3 2004 - Day 2 Report
By Abe BabeOn the second day of E3, much of my time was spent looking at many of the booths that I had missed out on the first day, although I will only review a couple here today, as I need to leave some for tomorrow's report. I also finished playing all of the Square-Enix games that we playable at E3. A Touch of Oddworld
Not quite Oddworld, but the nearest thing to it. Part of the expo was a video
game art exhibition. Although I did expect to see something there from Oddworld,
as they are frequently featured in the art side of things, unfortunatly there was
not. However there was an image of the main character from Darkwatch, which was
credited to Farzad and some other artists. Much of Farzad's Oddworld style could
be seen in the image. Here is the
image if you are interested.
Games and Booths that Impressed
Disney Interactive: Well, one part in particular, that was the Kingdom
Hearts: Chain of Memories display. Like the Square-Enix display, it had the same
statue of Sora. Although the entire display was enhanced with keyblades and cards
with the characters on them were incorporated next to the demo stations. Sora also
rotated and was standing on a Kingdom Hearts logo. At the back of the Disney booth
was a Disney Castle which showed trailers such as the Kingdom Hearts 2 trailer.
Another impressive display in this area was the Nightmare before Christmas display
which featured Jack Skellington.ATI Technologies: The main thing that impressed me here was the Matrix display that they incorporated into their booth to promote the upcoming "Matrix Online" game. With actual props from the Matrix movies such as Neo's jacket and a series of Agent Smiths, they even had an official Warner Bros. guard present to makes sure it all was kept secure. I also happened to be at that booth at the right time and scored myself a free t-shirt! SNK: Not really a fan of arcade games, there is one arcade game I really love to play whenever I am at the arcades, and that game is Metal Slug! SNK had on display Metal Slug 3 for the arcade, Xbox and PS2. Although it appeared to be a more difficult game than the previous two installments, it still had the classic elements of the game, with some new features thrown in. For instance, on stage two you were turned into a zombie if you didn't watch out. Although SNK are taking this game into the console market, I still prefer it on the traditional arcade machine, as it's easier to button bash!. Highlight of the Day
The Square-Enix presentation ... again! Even if I did have to wait in the standby
queue this time around. I would probably say that just being able to enjoy everything
and the fact that I was there was today's highlight as I cannot pin it down to one
specific thing. Oh, and there was on person that recognized me from the Dear Friends
concert!
Lowlight of the Day
Missing out on a ticket to the Square-Enix presentation! Unfortunately I arrived
at E3 later than I intended, so tomorrow I turn up early! I also found the Microsoft
booth to be a little disappointing, as it was just rows and rows of demo stations.
I thought it really lacked something compared to the Sony and Nintendo booths. And
for all of you Halo fans reading this, I still cannot find the Halo 2 demo stations,
so I can't tell you about this game!
Laugh of the Day
I couldn't resist putting this in, but seeing a new Leisure Suit Larry game
made me chuckle. Another title that I found amusing was a Playboy Mansion game!
What will they think of next!!! Maybe they need to bring out a game for the "female"
audience next!
Overall Impressions of Day 2
As much of today was spent looking at all of the booths that I didn't get a
chance to yesterday [I seriously hung around the Square-Enix booth way too much
yesterday], there was so much still to see. Many of the booths had their own unique
features, which would probably take up an entire website if I were to list them
all. The "wow" factor still hasn't worn off, and I am probably disappointed a little
now that there is only one day to go and still things that I haven't been able to
see as yet.
